The estate of Anthony Barré, aka Messy Mya, just filed a lawsuit against Beyonce for allegedly using a small, but memorable and significant piece from his 2010 video “A 27 Piece Huh?” and integrated it into her hit song “Formation” without permission.
Barré was a YouTube sensation who got shot and killed in New Orleans in 2010.
Barré’s estate claims Queen Bey straight-up ripped off the deceased artist’s exact “I like that” phrase, in his voice, without permission, and then went on to make millions off the track.
The estate goes on to claim they tried talking to Beyonce about the sample but the expecting mother of twins blew them off. And now, they’re asking for more than $20,000,000 in back royalties and other damages for using some of his final recorded words.
